I spent the most amazing week at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, moving my laptop from one beautiful spot to another, writing many hours a day! 

In the weeks since the summer, trying to keep the momentum going to push this draft to the end, I have taken to saving one day a week from the hustle and bustle of work-kids-bills-household stuff, jumping in the car, and just driving someplace that feels “far away.” I’m happy to grab a non-winterized cabin from friends, or sit in a cafe in the woods—if it’s at least forty minutes away and there’s some view of nature, there’s more space for the book. The feeling of “getting away” also makes it feel like a treat, rather than a slog, and that’s helpful.
